Officers arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of robbery and assault close to the scene. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.
Authorities were called at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of several individuals injured by a noxious substance believed to be pepper spray.
The attack - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in train delays and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
